Weather and time

This camera overlooks a waterhole beside Serondella lodge in the Thornybush Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger area in South Africa. A fallen log lies across the far bank, and tall trees close in around the sandy shore.

Serondella takes its name from the Xitsonga for the place of elephants. The lodge stands on the banks of a tributary of the Monwana watercourse and is flanked by two waterholes. Thornybush is a private reserve near Hoedspruit, in the Limpopo part of the Greater Kruger area.

The wide view shows the whole waterhole from its edge, with the log at the back and the trees reflected in the water. The camera does not stay on this frame: at other times it moves closer to the far shore and the big log. Elephants come to this waterhole to drink and bathe, and in the closer view they fill much of the picture.
