Dairy goats bed down on straw inside Cassie's Castle, a barn at Syman Says Farms in Salem, Connecticut, in the United States. Animals of every age share the pen, from milkers to kids a few days old.

The farm is family-run and the herd is mixed, so the picture changes through the year: kidding in late winter, browsing and play through the summer, and long stretches of sleep in between. Births happen on camera and are not scheduled.

Sound is carried with the picture, which is most of the point — the barn is rarely quiet. Salem is a rural town of about four thousand people in New London County, in the southeast corner of the state.
