Weather and time
An osprey nest sits on a wooden platform in the tidal marsh of East Creek in Cutchogue, on the North Fork of Long Island. The view looks across the creek to waterfront houses and private docks on the far shore.
Cutchogue is a hamlet in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York. The platform was built in May 2020 with volunteers from the North Fork Audubon Society. Ospreys, also called fish hawks, usually return to the North Fork in March and head south again by September, so the nest is occupied in spring and summer and may stand empty in autumn and winter.
In the wide view the platform is a pale post topped with a V-shaped frame and a nest of sticks, set in tall marsh grass with the creek behind it. Evergreen branches frame both sides of the picture. The camera has also shown a close view in which a bird sits on the nest.
