Weather and time
Roy's Dam is a small waterhole in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve in Mpumalanga, close to Silvan Safari Lodge. The camera looks across wet grass and reeds to a pond with a large green tree standing at its far edge.
Sabi Sand is a private reserve on the western side of Kruger National Park with no fence between the two, so animals move freely across the boundary. The reserve is known for its leopards. Silvan Safari Lodge is a small lodge with six suites, and the dam lies on its grounds.
The main view is wide: the pond in the middle, bare trees on the left and a leafless trunk in the right foreground. The camera pans and zooms, so the picture sometimes turns up to the sky and treetops or closes in on the reeds where herons feed. After dark the image becomes a black-and-white infrared view.
