Weather and time
Sugar Creek in Crawfordsville, Indiana, curves past a broad gravel bar toward the green steel girder bridge that carries US 231. The camera looks downstream from a high bank across a slow pool that mirrors the bridge piers.
Sugar Creek rises near Kempton and flows about 93 miles west-southwest to the Wabash River north of Montezuma. Crawfordsville, the seat of Montgomery County, is the largest town on its banks. Farther downstream the creek winds through Shades and Turkey Run state parks and draws canoeists and smallmouth bass anglers.
The camera stands on the outside of a bend just upstream of the North Washington Street crossing, so the open pool and the pale stones of the bar fill most of the frame. The gravel and the piers make changes in the water level easy to follow, and after dark the picture switches to black-and-white infrared.
