Weather and time
Freight trains roll along tracks raised behind a long concrete retaining wall above Canal Road in Lafayette, Indiana. The pan-tilt camera usually frames this wall, but it also turns toward a junction beyond the road.
Two railroads pass through Lafayette here: CSX's Monon Subdivision, the former Monon Railroad, and Norfolk Southern's Lafayette District, once part of the Wabash Railroad. The CSX terminal lies north and Norfolk Southern's Lafayette East Yard east, both out of the usual view. Amtrak's Cardinal between Chicago and Washington calls at a station south of this point.
In the home position the camera looks along the wall at a long line of tracks, with utility poles, rooftops and trees behind. Other positions give a closer shot across the yard tracks to a junction with signal masts, a small equipment hut and an overpass.
