Barn Owl Nest Box, Goose Pond, Indiana Live Cam

This camera looks inside a barn owl nest box that stands beside the visitor center at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area near Linton, Indiana. Plywood walls frame a floor of wood shavings and debris, with a few loose feathers.

Barn owls are endangered in Indiana because of grassland habitat loss, and fewer than 50 nests are found in the state each year. Over the past 30 years, more than 400 nest boxes have been placed in barns and other structures statewide. Volunteers built this box, which went up with its camera in spring 2022; the first pair of barn owls moved in early in 2024.

The fixed camera looks down from just below the roof, so eggs, owlets or adults inside would be seen close up. On sunny afternoons a patch of light falls on the left wall; when the owls are away, only the bare floor and the plywood grain remain in view.
