Main Quad, University of Illinois Live Cam

The Main Quad is the central quadrangle lawn of the University of Illinois campus in Urbana, seen from a high rooftop viewpoint. Diagonal walkways cross the open grass between mature shade trees, with the red-brick Illini Union and its white cupola at the far end.

On an American campus a quad is a large rectangular lawn surrounded by academic buildings. This one stretches between Foellinger Auditorium at its south end and the Illini Union at the north end. The camera is mounted atop Foellinger Auditorium, and a curved stone balustrade runs along the bottom of the frame.

The view is fixed, so the crossing of the two main paths stays in the centre while light, shadows and tree colours change through the day and the seasons. Students gather on the lawn in good weather, and a red-roofed tower and town buildings rise above the treetops.
