Nantian Temple, Taichung Live Cam

Nantian temple stands in the east district of Taichung, in central Taiwan, under a large statue of Guan Yu. The webcam looks into the hall from above the altar.

Guan Yu was a general who died in 220 and has been worshipped ever since, as a god of war, of loyalty and, oddly, of business: shopkeepers and police both keep his image. The statue here is about forty metres tall, not the hundred and forty that gets repeated online.

The temple also holds altars to Guanyin, to Confucius and to Yue Lao, the deity who ties couples together with a red thread. Visitors leave petitions at whichever suits.
