The prayer hall of a Sikh gurdwara fills this view in Surrey, near Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. Musicians sit cross-legged on the platform with harmonium and tabla, and a banner with the gurdwara's name hangs behind them.

A gurdwara is open to anyone regardless of faith, and the daily programme runs from early morning prayers through kirtan, the sung scripture that this camera mostly carries, to the communal kitchen. Surrey has one of the largest Sikh populations outside India, which is why the hall here is on this scale.

Services follow a fixed timetable posted along the bottom of the picture. Attendance is heaviest on weekend mornings and on the anniversaries of the Gurus.
