Lagoa de Albufeira, Sesimbra Live Cam

Lagoa de Albufeira is a coastal lagoon in the Sesimbra municipality south of Lisbon, and it fills this view. Sandbanks divide the shallow water below the lens, and the Atlantic runs across the top of the frame behind the dune.

The lagoon is fed by streams inland and by seawater through a channel in the dune, which is opened by machine when the water needs exchanging. Pine woods, campsites and walking paths back the shore, and the shallow inner water is used for windsurfing and kite classes.

The sun sets straight out to sea in the frame, and the shape of the sandbanks changes from season to season. Outside the summer months the shore is empty and the wind moves sand across it.
