Weather and time
This camera looks down the sloping main street of Saga-Toriimoto, a preserved old village in the Sagano district of western Kyoto. Tiled roofs, white-walled houses and leafy trees line the lane, and on clear days the mountains on the far side of the Kyoto basin rise on the horizon.
The village grew as a gateway town for pilgrims heading to Atago Shrine, whose first torii stands at the top of the street. In 1979 it became a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Tiled townhouses line the lower section below Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, while thatched farmhouses dominate the upper one.
Mounted above a roof in the lower section, the camera switches between a wide view of the curving lane and a closer look at the houses further down the slope. The blue road sign at the bend is a handy marker for how busy the lane is.
