Star Island, Isles of Shoals Live Cam

The camera looks south-west across a rocky cove on the west shore of Star Island toward White Island Light in the Isles of Shoals. Lunging Island lies low on the water to the right, and the mainland coast is a thin dark line on the horizon.

Star Island, one of the nine Isles of Shoals, lies about 11 km off the coast where New Hampshire meets Maine and belongs to the town of Rye. The fishing village of Gosport grew up here in the 17th century, and its stone chapel from 1800 still stands. The Oceanic Hotel next to the cove is the last of the grand hotels that once stood on the islands.

White Island Light, a granite and brick tower about 1.3 km away, rises on the left, with the low rocks of Seavey Island beside it. In the afternoon the sun is in front of the lens, and the sky above the mainland turns orange and pink at sunset.
