Weather and time
This fixed camera looks across Omaezaki Port, where long breakwaters shelter the harbor at the mouth of Suruga Bay. A fishery building and a quay with moored tugboats fill the foreground, and ships pass through the entrance.
Omaezaki Port lies on the east side of the cape at the southern tip of Shizuoka Prefecture. It started as a harbor of refuge, later grew into a timber port and now serves as a multipurpose port handling finished cars, gravel, paper and steel. The building on the left bears the sign of the Minami Suruga Bay fishery cooperative.
The camera faces north across Suruga Bay. The Z-shaped breakwaters with their small lighthouses sit on the right, and the far shore of the bay forms a low line of hills on the horizon. On clear mornings Mount Fuji rises above it to the right of center, while daytime haze often hides the mountain.
