Weather and time
This view looks across the Keta River in Haruno, in the mountains of northern Hamamatsu, to a steep wooded slope above wide gravel bars. A shallow riffle crosses the channel in the right foreground, and dark boulders line the water at the foot of the far bank.
The Keta is a class-A river of the Tenryū system that runs south for about 66 kilometres to join the Tenryū River. In Haruno, a former town merged into Hamamatsu in 2005, locals promote it as the cleanest river in Japan. The clear, shallow river is known for ayu sweetfish and also draws canoeists and campers.
The fixed camera sits on a rooftop in the Horinouchi area, where the river bends past the settlement. Its raised view takes in the whole channel, from the stony shoals and braided current to the forested hillside opposite, so changes in the water level are easy to follow.
