This view looks south along Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine, over a rocky shore and a long stretch of sand and gravel. A row of houses follows the beach road toward a dark, tree-covered point at the far end.

York Beach is a small resort village in the town of York, near the southern border of Maine. Long Sands is its main beach, more than a mile long, with Long Beach Avenue running right behind it. The camera is mounted at an oceanfront inn and restaurant on that road.

In this direction the foreground is a heap of large boulders, with picnic tables in the lower right corner. At low tide the water retreats from the rocks and leaves wet sand flats where people walk along the waterline. The picture is fixed and carries a text strip with temperature, wind and tide times.
