This view looks north along Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine, from the rocky edge of the shoreline. A wide curve of sand and a line of seaside houses stretch toward a distant point under open sky.

York Beach is a seaside village in the town of York, in the far south of Maine, close to the New Hampshire border. Long Sands is its main beach, more than a mile long, with cottages facing the water along Long Beach Avenue. The camera stands at an oceanfront inn and restaurant on that road.

The frame is fixed, with boulders and patio umbrellas in the foreground. Frames from different hours show how far the tide moves: at low water a broad band of wet sand opens up, at high water the sea reaches the rocks.
