Weather and time
From ground level, the camera faces the steel viaduct and yard tracks of Santa Fe Junction in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri. Orange marker posts and rails fill the foreground, with the long elevated structure across the middle.
Santa Fe Junction is one of the busiest rail crossings in the country, where four main tracks cross at ground level through diamonds. BNSF's Southern Transcon, Fort Scott and St. Joseph subdivisions meet here with CPKC, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific lines, and Amtrak's Southwest Chief passes through. Kansas City Union Station lies just to the east.
The camera is on a pan-tilt mount. The usual frame looks across the yard tracks toward the viaduct and the signal gantry at its far end; it also zooms in on trains on the structure and turns to the steel supports beneath it.
