Peregrine Falcon Nest Ledge, Topeka Live Cam

This camera watches the wooden ledge outside a peregrine falcon nest box on top of an office building in downtown Topeka, Kansas. Weathered planks run along a tan brick wall, with a green metal roof edge and lower downtown rooftops to the left.

The building on South Kansas Avenue, a short walk east of the Kansas State Capitol, has hosted nesting peregrines since 1993. The planks in front of the box opening give the birds a place to land and rest. Chicks raised here usually leave the nest about five weeks after hatching.

Where the inside camera covers the gravel scrape, this one shows the approach to the box and a slice of the city below it. Outside the nesting season the ledge is often empty, and the brick wall and bare planks fill the frame.
