Fort Madison Swing Bridge, Iowa Live Cam

A pan-tilt camera on Avenue H in Fort Madison, Iowa, looks along the riverfront tracks to the 1927 swing bridge. Its main view takes in a street, a grade crossing, a long lawn and the Mississippi.

The historic depot where Amtrak's Southwest Chief stops is close by. The tracks are BNSF's Chillicothe Subdivision, part of the Southern Transcon, with Union Pacific trackage rights. The double-deck bridge carries trains below and road traffic above, and its 525-foot swing span opens for river traffic.

The camera moves between positions: a wide shot of the bridge, closer views of the crossing signals, the lawn with a black Santa Fe freight car, and the willow-lined water. At night the crossing lights glow red and green.
