Weather and time
The camera stands on the platform of the Quincy Amtrak Station in Quincy, Illinois, and looks east along two tracks toward a grade crossing. A tall Amtrak 'Quincy, IL' sign marks the platform edge on the right of the frame.
The station is a 1985 replica of the original Chicago, Burlington & Quincy depot and serves the Illinois Zephyr and Carl Sandburg trains to Chicago. The tracks belong to BNSF's Brookfield Subdivision on the Chicago Division, and Quincy, nicknamed the Gem City, lies on the Mississippi River about 120 miles west of Springfield.
The foreground is the yellow tactile strip of the platform and the rails running away to the left, with a low conifer and rough meadow beyond them. In the distance are crossing signals and a signal gantry, a line of trees, open lawn and a few low buildings on the skyline.
