Elkhart River at Violett Cemetery, Goshen Live Cam

The Elkhart River is shown here from the wooded bank at Violett Cemetery on the south side of Goshen, Indiana, through overhanging branches. Beyond the calm water lies a low grassy far bank backed by a stand of broadleaf trees.

Violett Cemetery, also known as Waterford Cemetery, lies on both sides of Violett Road at the southern edge of the city. The Elkhart River winds past its western side in a tight bend before continuing through Goshen. Further downstream the river reaches the city of Elkhart, where it joins the St. Joseph River.

Rather than an open panorama, the camera looks out through a screen of leaves and thin trunks, so the river appears in a natural frame. When the surface is still, the far trees are reflected across the lower half of the picture. In autumn the foliage on both banks turns yellow and orange.
