Weather and time
Canadian National's South Bend Subdivision runs east from the historic Grand Trunk depot in Battle Creek, Michigan, as seen from above. A mown lawn and a long fence separate the tracks from a yard of white trailers and a cereal plant.
The camera is mounted on the Moorish-Victorian depot at 175 Main Street, built of granite and brick under Spanish tile roofs; the Grand Trunk Western ran passenger trains from it until Amtrak took over in 1971. The Canadian National line links Chicago with Port Huron. Battle Creek is nicknamed Cereal City, home of Kellogg's and Post.
The view looks east, with the red tile dome of the depot in the lower left corner. Two tracks curve away past the lawn towards the plant with the Post logo, and the right half of the frame holds rows of trailers; freight trains pass close below the lens.
