Weather and time
This camera looks down at Big Ole, the 28-foot Viking statue at the north end of downtown Alexandria, Minnesota, with Lake Agnes behind it. A curving street runs along the lawn on the left, and a belt of trees separates the statue from the water.
Built for the 1964 New York World's Fair, Big Ole honours the Kensington Runestone, a carved slab that farmer Olaf Ohman said he found near Alexandria in 1898. Scholars regard the stone as a hoax, yet it became a symbol of the town and is kept at the Runestone Museum. The paved Central Lakes State Trail passes the statue.
The fixed camera faces north, so Ole, with his spear and red cape, fills the right side of the frame. His shield reads 'Alexandria, Birthplace of America'. On the left, a crosswalk and a yellow trail-crossing sign mark the street, and Lake Agnes shows through the trees.
