Jurassic Pier, West Bay Live Cam

This camera on the east pier at West Bay in Dorset looks across the outer harbour to the Jurassic Pier and the cliffs to the west. Timber piles line the face of the pier opposite, and a slipway with floating pontoons sits at the inner end of the basin on the right.

The harbour was moved here in the 1740s, when two piers were built and the River Brit was diverted to flow out between them. A coastal defence scheme finished in 2005 replaced the west pier with the Jurassic Pier and added the slipway and outer harbour. The settlement, once called Bridport Harbour, grew into a resort after the railway arrived in 1884.

This view faces west, opposite to the view along East Beach from the same pier. Beyond the Jurassic Pier, houses climb the grassy slope of West Cliff, and the coast continues towards Thorncombe Beacon and Golden Cap.
