Weather and time
La Lanterna is the old lighthouse of Trieste, standing on a mole at the north end of the harbour in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. The webcam looks from there across the gulf to the piers of the port and the city on its hills.
The tower was built in 1833 on the remains of a Napoleonic bastion and worked until 1927, when the Faro della Vittoria on the slope above took over. The building now belongs to a sailing club and the light is no longer lit.
Trieste handles more tonnage than any other Italian port, most of it crude oil pumped from here through the Transalpine pipeline to refineries in Austria and Germany. The container terminal and the free-port basins sit south along the same shore.
