Weather and time
This camera looks out over the wide shingle beach at Overcombe, on the eastern side of Weymouth Bay in Dorset, from the seawall promenade. The wide-angle view takes in dinghies and kayaks stored on the shingle, a mast flying a flag and a pile of large rocks.
Overcombe is a quieter part of the roughly three-mile beach around Weymouth Bay, a short walk west of Bowleaze Cove. The wide shingle is a base for sailing and other water sports, and the Isle of Portland appears as a flat-topped ridge on the horizon at the right.
The camera is fixed and faces south-east over the bay, so around midday the sun stands almost straight ahead of the lens. Below the promenade wall a row of upturned boats lies on the stones, and a roll-out access mat leads across the shingle towards the sea. Boards with foils are laid out by the water.
