East Beach and East Cliff, West Bay Live Cam

This camera on the end of the east pier at West Bay in Dorset looks along East Beach to the golden sandstone face of East Cliff. Rock armour and benches on the pier fill the foreground, and the shingle beach sweeps round to the foot of the cliff.

West Bay, the harbour village of Bridport, is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. East Beach is the western end of Chesil Beach, a shingle bank that runs for 29 kilometres to the Isle of Portland. East Cliff is made of Early Jurassic Bridport Sand, coloured yellow by iron minerals and marked by clear horizontal bands. The cliff appeared in the ITV crime drama Broadchurch.

The camera faces east, with the open sea on the right and a tall marker post in the water. Houses of West Bay line the back of the beach on the left, and the afternoon sun lights the whole cliff face.
