Weather and time
This camera looks down into a barn owl nest box at Lorton Meadows, a nature reserve on the northern edge of Weymouth in Dorset. The picture shows the floor of the box, covered in thin twigs and enclosed by dark wooden walls.
Lorton Meadows covers about 75 hectares of the Lorton Valley, with meadows divided by thick hedgerows, small copses and ponds. Cattle graze the reserve, which forms part of the Lorton Valley Nature Park alongside the Lodmoor wetlands. Kestrels, bullfinches and Cetti's warblers are among the birds recorded here.
Fixed inside the box, the camera shows the nest chamber itself rather than the meadows around it. The box was put up for barn owls, but in 2026 a pair of stock doves moved in and laid their eggs here instead. Between nesting seasons it may stand empty, with only twigs on its floor.
