Weather and time
The view looks northeast along Mierové námestie in Trenčín, with the twin-towered Piarist church on the left and the castle on the right. Pastel burgher houses with red tiled roofs line the paved square, and a church with a slender spire stands on a terrace below the castle walls.
Mierové námestie is the main square of the old town of Trenčín, a city in the Váh valley in western Slovakia. The Jesuits began the Church of Saint Francis Xavier in 1653, and it later passed to the Piarists. Trenčín Castle, the third-largest castle in Slovakia, was the seat of the magnate Matthew Csák in the early 14th century.
The view runs the full length of the pedestrian zone to wooded hills on the horizon. Matthew's Tower crowns the castle rock, and the spired church on the right is the Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
