Sheep Farm De Waddel, Texel Live Cam

The pastures of a sheep farm on the Hoge Berg ridge lie below this webcam on Texel, in the north of the Netherlands. Ewes lie out on the grass in the foreground, and a barn with horses in the paddock stands on the skyline.

The Texel breed was developed on this island and is now kept worldwide for its meat. The fields here are divided by earth banks rather than hedges, a pattern peculiar to the Hoge Berg that has been kept as a protected landscape, and sheep sheds stand end-on to the prevailing wind.

Lambs appear in the fields from March and the island holds far more sheep than people through the spring. The Wadden Sea lies a couple of kilometres beyond the ridge.
