Dormakade, Urk Live Cam

The harbour at Urk lies below this webcam, at a former island village in the Dutch province of Flevoland. Yachts lie packed at the pontoons below the lens, and brick warehouses stand along the far quay.

Urk was an island in the Zuiderzee until the surrounding seabed was drained in the 1940s and it found itself on dry land. It kept its own dialect, its churches and the largest fishing fleet in the country, whose vessels now work from North Sea ports and land their catch here.

The harbour in view is the recreational side, full through the summer. Wind off the IJsselmeer is constant, and the quay is a working one for the rest of the year.
