De Kolk is the wide stretch of canal in the centre of Sneek, and it lies below this webcam in Friesland. The twin-towered Waterpoort stands at the far end, and cabin cruisers are moored along the quay below the lens.

The Waterpoort is the surviving water gate of the town defences, built in the sixteenth century where the canal passed through the walls, and it is the emblem of Sneek. The town is the centre of Frisian sailing: Sneekweek, held every August, is one of the largest inland regattas in Europe.

The bascule bridge beyond the moorings opens for masted boats through the day. In summer the canal in view is solid with hire cruisers.
