Peregrine Falcon Nest Box, ASML Tower, Veldhoven Live Cam

The view comes from inside a peregrine falcon nest box fixed to the roof of the ASML Tower in Veldhoven, North Brabant. Pale walls enclose a gravel floor, and the open front looks out over factory halls and trees far below.

Veldhoven borders Eindhoven and is home to the headquarters of ASML, a maker of chip lithography machines. After a young male peregrine spent the winter on the tower in late 2009, the company fitted a nest box to its roof. A pair took it over in April 2010 and laid four eggs the following March.

A second camera watches the outside of the box, while this one stays indoors, facing the gravel where the eggs are laid in spring. Between breeding seasons the box is often empty, though a falcon may still stop by the opening. After dark the picture turns black and white.
