Weather and time
This view looks across Tsubasa Pond at Yonago Waterbird Sanctuary, a wetland park beside Lake Nakaumi in Tottori. Ducks and other waterbirds drift across the water, with a small reed islet in the middle and sandy banks in the foreground.
The sanctuary lies in the Hikona district of Yonago, on reclaimed land along the shore of Lake Nakaumi. It opened in 1995 to protect a pond used by wintering waterbirds. The park forms part of the Nakaumi wetland, which is a Ramsar site and a nationally designated wildlife protection area. Swans are among the best-known winter visitors.
The camera stands on the bank and looks out over open water toward low hills and the distant massif of Mount Daisen. Posts and stakes in the water serve as perches, and birds gather around the islet and along the far shore.
