Tottori Prefecture, Japan
Tottori Prefecture stretches along the Sea of Japan in the eastern San'in region, bordered by Hyogo, Okayama, Hiroshima and Shimane. Its capital is the city of Tottori, and with about 520,000 residents it is the least populous prefecture in Japan. The Tottori Sand Dunes, among the largest in the country, lie on the coast near the capital, and Mount Daisen, at 1,729 metres the highest peak of the Chugoku region, rises in the west. The prefecture is famous for Nijisseiki pears and snow crab, and Sakaiminato is where manga artist Shigeru Mizuki grew up.
