Gardens Adachi Museum, Shimane Live Cam

The dry landscape garden of the Adachi Museum of Art stands in front of this view at Yasugi, in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. White gravel fills the near ground, with clipped pines, standing rocks and moss mounds behind it and wooded hills closing the view.

Six gardens cover some 165,000 square metres around the museum, laid out on the principle that the garden is itself a painting: the borrowed hills behind are part of the composition and every window frames a set view. Inside, the museum holds modern Japanese painting, above all the work of Yokoyama Taikan.

Nothing in the garden is walked on — it is designed to be looked at from the building, which is what this camera reproduces. The same frame changes completely with snow in winter and with the maples in November.
