University of Tampa Live Cam

The University of Tampa occupies a former grand hotel on the west bank of the Hillsborough River in Florida. The webcam looks over the lawns, the oaks and the brick towers.

The building was the Tampa Bay Hotel, put up in 1891 by a railway owner who wanted a destination at the end of his line. Its thirteen silver minarets are one for each month of the Islamic year, and the style is Moorish revival at full stretch.

Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders were quartered here in 1898 while waiting to sail for Cuba. The hotel failed as a business, the city bought it, and the university has had it since 1933.
