Shimane Prefecture (島根県) is situated in the south west part of Honshu - Japan's main island. This is a coastal region on the Sea of Japan to its north, bordering Hiroshima Prefecture to the south, Tottori Prefecture to the east and Yamaguchi Prefecture to the southwest. The capital, Matsue, is known as the " Water City" - it is the beautifully located by two sea water lakes - Shinji and Nakaumi - the River Ohashi River and the sea. The most famous landmark in the city is the Matsue Castle, one of the few existing original Japanese castles. In the city of Yasugi, the Adachi Museum of Art is worth a visit, featuring Japanese art and renowned gardens.
