Weather and time
This camera at the top station of the Senkoji Ropeway looks over Onomichi and the narrow Onomichi Channel in Hiroshima Prefecture. Old town rooftops fill the foreground, and Mukaishima island rises across the water.
Onomichi grew as a port on the Seto Inland Sea, and the town built around the channel was among the first places named Japan Heritage in 2015. The ropeway opened in 1957 and reaches the top of Mount Senkoji in about three minutes. The Onomichi Bridge of 1968 and the Shin-Onomichi Bridge of 1999 cross the channel side by side, and the newer one starts the Shimanami Kaido route to Imabari.
The camera sits at the cabin doorway of the top station, so a ropeway pylon and passing cabins appear at the lower left. Shipyard cranes line the Mukaishima shore, tugboats move along the channel, and the two bridges span the water in the distance.
