Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, Imabari Live Cam

The Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge stretches from the Imabari shore toward Umashima island in this elevated view over the Kurushima Strait. A white tower and the expressway deck fill the right side, with more towers lined up beyond the island.

Opened in 1999 on the Shimanami Kaido, the 4,105-metre crossing was the world's first chain of three consecutive suspension bridges. It links Shikoku with Oshima island and carries an expressway along with a path for cyclists and pedestrians. The strait below is a busy shipping route with tidal currents of up to about 10 knots.

Since the camera sits just above the road deck, traffic on the bridge and the houses of Umashima are easy to make out. At times the view zooms in on cargo ships passing through the strait before returning to the bridge.
