Weather and time
The webcam looks at Pietra di Bismantova, a flat-topped rock above the green hills of Castelnovo ne' Monti in the Emilia-Romagna Apennines. Meadows, trees and a group of farm buildings fill the foreground, with more mountain ridges on the horizon.
Pietra di Bismantova is an isolated rock in the Reggio Emilia Apennines, in the municipality of Castelnovo ne' Monti. Its top reaches about 1,047 metres, with steep walls some 300 metres above the surrounding hills. Dante mentions the rock in Canto IV of the Purgatorio, and today it lies within the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park.
The camera is fixed and frames the rock from a distance, with the houses of a village strung along the hills to its right and a pointed mountain on the far horizon. Red-roofed farm buildings stand in the lower right corner of the frame.
