Weather and time
This camera looks over the old centre of Castiglione di Garfagnana, a hill village in the province of Lucca in Tuscany. A paved square with historic palazzi lies in the foreground, and fortress walls rise on the slope above.
Castiglione di Garfagnana stands at about 545 metres between the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. It was a frontier stronghold of the Republic of Lucca, and its medieval fortress still crowns the hillside above the stone lanes and terracotta roofs.
The camera sits high on a tower, looking down on a pink palazzo with flags. The ruined fortress with its round tower and a tall square bell tower stand out on the slope right of centre, and a rocky peak rises at the left edge. The framing is fixed, so only the light and the colour of the woods change.
