Piazza Duomo Square, Italy Live Cam

The white marble front of the Duomo di San Martino faces the open square at the centre of Pietrasanta, in Tuscany. A brick bell tower stands beside it, and the Apuan Alps close the view to the north.

The tower was never given the marble facing it was designed for, so the brickwork stayed exposed. Across the piazza, the clock tower known as the Torre delle Ore was built in the 1530s and restored twice since.

Marble from the Apuan quarries has been the trade of this town for centuries. Michelangelo came to select stone here, and the foundries and carving studios still working in the side streets drew Botero and Mitoraj in turn; their pieces stand in the square for months at a time. The webcam covers the piazza from the arcade on its eastern side.
