Weather and time
The Oceanreef webcam shows a live underwater view from the Marine Protected Area (Area Marina Prottetta Isola di Bergeggi) off Bergeggi Island in the Liguria Sea, Italy. The camera looks at the fish just off the coast of the Bergeggi commune. Since Bergeggi Island became a marine reserve in 2007, the number of fish species here has grown.
The Marine Protected Area holds large underwater meadows of Posidonia oceanica, also called Mediterranean tapeweed or Neptune grass, along with coral reefs and caves. Diving is allowed in the reserve in the Gulf of the Island, and the area can also be explored by snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing with expert guides, kayaking or canoeing, and stand up paddle around Bergeggi Island. It is also possible to book a tour to the Marine Cave of Bergeggi, a karst cavity in dolomite limestone dating back about 200 million years. See our map further down the page to locate the Marine Protected Area of Bergeggi Island in the Ligurian region of Italy.
