Werner March designed the stadium for the 1936 Summer Olympics. It has a seating capacity of 74,475, was renovated and modernised between 2000 and 2004, served the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2009 World Athletics Championships, hosts the men's DFB Cup finals, and is the home stadium of the Bundesliga professional football team.
