Spandau Citadel, Berlin Live Cam

The river Havel runs past Spandau below this webcam, in the west of Berlin, seen from a terrace on the bank. Potted plants stand at the edge of the frame, and passenger boats cross towards the island of Eiswerder.

Eiswerder was built up as a military and industrial island and its halls are now used for events; two bridges connect it to the banks. The Spandau Citadel, a Renaissance fortress built between 1559 and 1594, stands a short distance upstream and is not itself in the frame. The chimneys on the far bank belong to a power station.

Cycle paths follow both banks and the water carries pleasure boats through the summer. In autumn the trees along the shore turn and the traffic on the river drops away.
