Berlin Brandenburg Gate Live Cam

The Brandenburg Gate closes the western end of Pariser Platz in the middle of Berlin, with Unter den Linden running away behind it. The webcam looks across the square at the columns and the crowds.

It was built between 1788 and 1791 on the model of the entrance to the Acropolis. Napoleon took the chariot off the top in 1806 and had it carted to Paris; when it came back eight years later an iron cross was added to the standard.

For twenty-eight years the gate stood inside the strip between the two Berlin walls and nobody walked through it. The square around it was rebuilt in the 1990s, and the buildings on either side are reconstructions on their pre-war plots.
