Texas Southern University Campus Live Cam

Texas Southern University occupies a campus in the Third Ward of Houston, a little south of the centre of the city. The webcam looks over the plaza and a sculpture in the middle of it.

The state created this university in a hurry. In 1946 a black postal worker sued for admission to the whites-only law school at Austin, and Texas answered by setting up a separate university here; the Supreme Court ruled four years later that the arrangement was not equal, a decision that fed into Brown.

It has been a historically black university ever since and runs one of the larger pharmacy and law schools in the state. The sculptures around the campus are by Carroll Harris Simms, who taught here for four decades.
