Weather and time
This camera looks across the clear, spring-fed water of Silver Springs State Park near Ocala in north central Florida. Seagrass covers the bottom, while palms and hardwoods on the far bank are mirrored in the calm surface.
The springs feed the Silver River in Marion County, and glass-bottom boats have carried visitors over them since the late 1800s. Manatees, alligators, fish and wading birds all use this water, but manatees come mainly in the cooler months, so an empty river is normal at other times.
The camera sits low above the water and keeps the same angle in frames taken at different hours and on different days. The wooded shoreline fills the top of the picture, and in strong sun the eelgrass and pale sandy patches below show through in green and blue.
